What's new in Puraite this September
Welcome to the first Puraite newsletter. Twice a month we will send you a short update on what is new on the platform, what we are working on, and how you can help.
|
A growing community
|
300
active researchers onboarded in the last two weeks
|
|
500
planned researchers by the end of October
|
|
2,000
planned researchers by the end of the year
|
|
A note on speed. With this many new users, some pages have been slower than we want, and AI screening and extraction can queue at busy times. We have already shipped faster screening results, lighter page loads and database tuning, and more performance work lands every week. If something feels slow, tell us: it helps us prioritise.

New this month
Work together, live
See who else is editing your protocol, in real time. Teams can switch this on or off per project.
|
|
Faster screening on big projects
Projects with 10,000 or more records now search, sort and page smoothly.
|
| |
Re-run AI screening after a criteria change
Change your criteria, re-screen only the affected records, and undo if you need to.
|
|
Start with a pilot round
Screen a small sample first, compare AI and human decisions side by side, and refine your criteria before the full screening.
|
| |
Search strategies you can defend
Reports describe the search that actually ran, subject headings are checked against MeSH, and a known-includes check tells you which key studies a strategy would miss.
|
|
Easier imports
Large RIS files resume and parse in the background. Scopus and Web of Science exports import directly. Word full texts and Excel protocols are accepted.
|
| |
Extraction, on your terms
Download an Excel template, fill it in, and upload it back. You are warned before overwriting a field a colleague has reviewed.
|
|
Reproducible statistics
Every synthesis analysis now exports a runnable R script, so your results can be checked and reproduced outside Puraite.
|
Also: a preview of what an export contains before you download it, collected full texts as a ZIP, and upgraded AI models across screening and extraction.
|
Get help, and tell us what breaks
Two buttons are always with you in the app. Please use them: every report reaches the team directly, and we write back when your bug is fixed.
- Click the book icon in the bar at the top of any workspace page, or open Help from the sidebar.
- Or press g then h anywhere in the app.
- New pages offer a 30-second tour the first time you open them.

|
- Click the blue bug button in the bottom-right corner of the page where the problem happened.
- Say what you did, what you expected, and what you saw instead. The project and page are attached for you.
- Send. We reply to you personally once the fix is live.

Help us keep academic access free
Academic use of Puraite is completely free, and it stays that way. The AI screening and extraction behind it, however, cost real compute, and with 300 new users in two weeks that is now our biggest constraint. Our plan is to fund academic usage through industry partners: pharmaceutical and medtech companies, contract research organisations, and regulatory bodies that need the same evidence work done to a defensible standard.
If you know someone in that world, please introduce us. A short email to contact@puraite.com is enough, and every introduction helps keep the platform free for researchers.
|
Working with a team? Invite them to your project
- Open your project and go to Project Settings, then Team & Roles.
- Enter their email address and click Add. Manage the user role by choosing Collaborator for screening and extraction, Viewer for read-only access, or Project Manager to run the project with you.
- They receive an invitation to the project by email and also a notification on their account.
If they are new to Puraite:
- Go to My organisations, open your organisation.
- Open Members, then click Add member.
- Enter their email address and click Add. Manage the user role and permissions and invite.
- The link creates their account and takes them straight to your project.
|
Publishing with Puraite? Please say so
If a paper, thesis or report comes out of work you did on Puraite, we would be grateful for an acknowledgement. It is how we show funders and partners that the platform is used for real research. A sentence in your methods or acknowledgements section is enough, for example:
| Screening and data extraction were carried out with Puraite (puraite.com), an AI-assisted platform for evidence synthesis. |
And do tell us when it is published. We would love to read it, and to share it.
|
Coming next
- Further speed improvements across the platform.
- A redesigned project overview that shows your own work first.
- Extraction forms that support several exposure and outcome models per study, a request from one of you.
